Halloween Milk Cartons

While I'm recuperating from a wild weekend at Treasure Island Casino (well, as wild as you can get at my age), I thought I'd post a project I made using Becky Roberts milk carton tutorial.  For those of you who haven't  checked out her blog, Inking Idaho http://inkingidaho.blogspot.com/  you're really missing out.  You can download a very detailed tutorial for this project for $3.95.  I've purchased three of her tutorials so far, and I can tell you that they are well worth the cost.  This one looked so complicated, I thought it would end up in my basket with all of the other tutorials I've printed out, but it was much easier than it looked.  I can't wait to try a Christmas version. The tutorial even shows you how to add a "secret" opening in the bottom so you don't have to ruin the milk carton to get at the treats:

I used the stamp set Batty for You, Pg. 23 #116576 and Cast-A-Spell DSP, Pg. 21 #115677 to decorate the boxes and crate.  The ribbon is the Old Olive 1-1/4" Striped Grosgrain.

For club member, this is also where I purchased a tutorial to make that cute little S'mores box.  I just changed the box dividers around a little.

Great Friend

This card uses a masking techinique to create the sunrise in the background.  I also used one of my favorite stamp sets, Lovely as a Tree.

Cut Not Quite Navy CS 3" x 6" and score at 3" to make the card base. 

Cut Whisper White CS 2-1/2" x 2-1/2".   Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp image as shown. 

Lay a piece of masking material over the image and draw a line along the horizon of the image. Cut across line.  Mask off the top of the image and use a sponge dauber and Old Olive ink to color in the bottom of the image.  Sponge on Always Artichoke to the very bottom edge and the sides, leaving the color lighter toward the center bottom.  Remove the mask.

Using Staz-On, stamp the trees image onto a piece of Vellum CS and cut out the branches with paper snips or a kraft knife as shown.

Position the Vellum mask over the trees. 






Now open up the VersaMark Pad and the Crushed Curry, Dusty Durango and Old Olive ink pads.  Load the "leaves image from the Branch Out stamp set with VersaMark and then Crushed Curry.  Use sponge daubers to add a little Dusty Durange and Old Olive to part of the image.  Stamp over the mask.  Repeat this process until you're satisfied with the color.  (Be careful not to let the ink dry out.)  Remove the mask and heat emboss using the clear embossing powder.

Punch a 1" circle in a piece of masking material and center over the image.  Cover the bottom of the image with the remaining mask.  Use sponge daubers and Barely Banana and Pumpkin Pie ink to create the sun.

  Remove the mask used to make the sun.  Leave the mask at the bottom of the image and cover the sun with a 1" circle. Sponge Bordering Blue over the top of the image.  Sponge Not Quite Navy on the top and edges, leave the center lighter around the sun.

Remove the mask and use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the sentiment at the top.

Cut Dusty Durango CS 2-3/4" x 2-3/4".  Ink around the edges.  Center the image onto the Dusty Durango mat and attach with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Attach to the card base with snail.

If you haven't worked with masks before, I really encourage you to try it.  I use a product called Eclipse for masking.  It's like a thin post-it note only the glue covers the back completely so it lays nice and flat.  You can find it here:  http://www.stampstampstamp.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=S&Category_Code=et

Belle Bleu Stand-Up Card

Well, today's project took waaaaaayyyyy longer than I thought it would, but it was worth it.  This was my first attempt at a stand-up card and I have to tell you, I'm pretty pleased with it.  I got the original template for this card from Penny Wessenauer at Photobucket, but I couldn't find a link.  My version is pretty complex, but you can use the basic pattern and make it your own.  If you do, I'd love to post it here!

Cut Not Quite Navy (NQN) paper 5-1/2" x 12".  On 11" side, score at 2",4", 8" and 10".  Make a light pencil mark 3" up from the bottom of each side on the 5-1/2" end.  Using the paper cutter, cut from the 3" mark to the top of the card at the 8" score line as shown.  Repeat this process on the other side. 

Punch the Heart to Heart image on a piece of vellum and position over the shortest panel on one side and draw a light pencil line around the image.  Remove the vellum and punch the out the hearts.  Flip the vellum over and repeat on the other side.
Cut Belle Bleu DSP 5-1/4" x 3-3/4" and use the ticket punch on the corners. Sponge NQN around the edges.

All of the Very Vanilla CS (VV) is stamped with the Sanded background stamp using Sahara Sand ink. Cut a piece of VV 3-1/4" x 3-1/4". Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to center the bird image from Wings of Friendship. Load the stamp up with Versamark and then NQN. Stamp image onto VV and emboss with clear embossing powder. Use the ticket punch on the corners and sponge around the edges with NQN.  Attach to the Belle Bleu DSP with snail. 

Cut another piece of VV 2-1/4" x 1-1/4".  Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the sentiment for Friends 24-7.  Ticket punch the corners and ink around the edges.  Cut a piece of Kraft Taffetta ribbon about 4-1/2" and position at bottom of DSP and tape on the back.  Use snail to attach the sentiment to the ribbon.  Pierce the ribbon and attach a filigree brad so that it slightly overlaps the sentiment as shown. I used the clear rhinestone brads, but you could also use the silver brads the come with the filigree piece.  Repeat on the other side.

Attach the front to the card base with dimensionals. This is a good time to use up all of the long skinny left over pieces.  I also attached rhinestone brads in the corners of the card base.  If you do this, keep in mind that you'll have to cover them up on the back.

Cut a contrasting piece of DSP 5" x 1-5/8".  Use the angle on the card base to draw an angle on the DSP.  Cut and ink around the edges. Wrap Kraft Taffetta ribbon around the bottom and tie and bow. Slide the ribbon up or down to match the position of the ribbon on the card front and attach this piece using snail.  Repeat on the other side.  The hearts were embossed using the image in the Love You Much set and punched. (the punch matches the stamp--how cool is that?)  Attach the hearts to the side panels.  Emboss flowers  from the Wings of Friendship set. 

Now for the back of the card.  Cut the DSP pieces for the back and back side panels the same size as the front pieces.  Ink around the edges and attach.  (You won't use dimensionals for the DSP)  If you add brads to corners of the front of the card you need to hide them.  I used the flower image in Wings of Friendship and attached them with dimensionals. 

Cut a piece of VV 3" x 3-1/2" and ink around the edges.  Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to center the image from Friends 24-7. Attach to DSP with snail.  Punch photo corners and ink around the edges.  I attached them using snail just on the outside edges of the photo corners so  I could slide a photo in the back.

Cut VV 1-14/" x 4-1/4" and cut at and angle the same way you did the side panel.  Ink around the edges.  Use the NQN Marker to color in one of the birds and heart image in the Love You Much set.  Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to position and the bird as shown.  Repeat on the other side.  Punch the Trio Flowers above the bird.  Cut a piece of NQN 2-1/4" x 3/4" and attach to the DSP side panel so it will show under the Trio Flower punch.  Attach the VV piece over the DSP with dimensionals.  The remaining embellishments can be embossed directly onto the card or cut out and attached with dimensionals.

After I posted this tutorial I decided to add a drop of Liquid Pearls, White Opal, to the center of each flower on the back of the card.  If you use Liquid Pearls, it should be the last thing you do because it takes several hours to dry.  You could also use the half pearls in the Pretties Kit, Pg. 178 #109114.

Here's the best part:  This card folds up to fit into a standard A2 envelope!

Falling Leaves

Ink around the edges of the 1-1/2" x 2/3/4"  Autumn Traditions DSP and attach to bottom of  2-3/4" x 2-3/4 Elegant Eggplant. Cut a piece of Real Red 1" Double-Stitched Grosgraine Ribbon approximately 3".  Fold in half and cut at an angle on one end.  Use Snail to attach about 1/2" on back side of card and wrap to the front.  Use snail to attach to the front just on the left edge.

Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to center the leaf image from the Falling Leaves stamp set on the 1-1/2" x 1-3/4" More Mustard.  Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig again to stamp the sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.  Ink around the edges and attach to the 1-3/4" x 2" Always Artichoke and ink around the edges.  Use the Mat Pack template and needle to pierce two corners of the image piece as shown in finished card. (See yesterdays blog for photo of the Mat Pack template.) Attach this piece to the front of the card using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Mojo Monday - 100th Anniversay Challenge

I'm a little late with my post this morning, so I decided to post the photo for now and add the tutorial later.  The inspiration for this card came from the a special Sunday challenge on Mojo Monday.  The challenge was designed by one of my favorite bloggers, Mary Fish at http://www.stampinpretty.com/.

Cut the Sage Shadow CS card base 11" x 4-1/4" and score to make card base.  Cut another piece of Sage Shadow CS 2-1/4" x 2-1/2".

Cut a piece of Black CS  5-1/4" x 5"

Cut three pieces of Nouveau Chic DSP  4" x 3", 4-1/4" x 3-1/2" and 2-1/2" x 2-1/2"

Cut the 4" x 3" DSP into (12) 1" pieces.  Ink around the edges and  attach them in the correct order on the reverse side of the 4-1/4" x 3-1/2" DSP.  Ink around the edges of the 4-1/4" x 3-1/2"  and attach to the Black CS 5-1/4" x 5".  

Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to center the bird image on the 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" DSP and ink around the edges.  Use the paper piercing template in the Mat Pack and a needle to pierce a double row of holes in two corners as shown on the finished card.  Note:  I hadn't really paid much attention the Mat Pack until I realized that's how all of those bloggers were putting nice neat rows of pierced holes and brads on their projects.
Attach the image to the 2-1/4" x 2-1/2" Sage Shadow CS.  Ink around the edges and attach to the Sage Shadow mat with Snail.  Attach this piece to the 4-1/4" x 3-1/2' DSP using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Using the Mat Pack template and the Paper-Piercing Tool, attach three evenly spaced brads in the lower left corner of the Basic Black CS and attach to the card base.

House of Haunts

Happy Friday to all of my former coworkers slaving away at City Hall today!

I tried really hard not to post any Halloween stuff until next month, but I couldn't resist. The inspiration for this card came from Wanda Johnson at http://stampinwithme.com/. When I saw this card I just had to try my own version of it.

Cut a piece of Basic Black CS 5-1/2" x 3-7/8". Tear about 1/2" off the bottom and distress the edge. (The Cutter Kit on Pg. 191 #106958 has a distressing tool. I didn't include it on the supply list because I don't have one yet, but it's on my wish list.)

Cut a piece of Summer Sun CS 5-1/2 " x 3-7/8" and tear about 1" off the bottom and distress. Stamp the tree image on the upper right section of the Summer Sun piece with VersaMark and use Clear Embossing Powder to heat emboss. Rub the Embossing Buddy over the Summer Sun CS and stamp the Haunted House image in front of the tree. Use Black Embossing Powder to heat emboss the house. Trust me, you want to use the Embossing Buddy when embossing with black powder.

Tear a piece of Post-It Note paper and stick across the card horizontally at the base of the tree. Use the Sponge Dauber and the Summer Sun ink to create a shadow on both sides of the house. Do this 2-3 times, changing the position of the Post-It each time until you have the effect you want.

Layer the Summer Sun CS over the Basic Black CS using Snail adhesive. Cut a piece of Basic Black CS 1-3/8" x 1-1/4". Cut a piece of Summer Sun CS 1-1/4" X 2-1/8". Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to senter the Happy Halloween sentiment on the Summer Sun CS and layer over the Basic Black CS. Use the Piercing Tool to attach the rhinestones to this piece. Attach to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Stamp the pumpkin image on Summer Sun CS with VersaMark and heat emboss with Clear Embossing Power. Cut around the image and attach to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Clean and Simple

I wish I could take credit for this clean and simple style of card, but I know I've seen it done on someone's blog. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I saw it. If it's your idea, please let me know so I can give you credit. I didn't see any instructions, so here's how I did it.

Paper: Whisper White, Pg. 155 #100730; Vellum CS, Pg. 159 #101856

Ink: Jet Black Staz-on, Pg. 190 #101406; Perfect Plum, Pg. 157 #101437; Pale Plum, Pg. 157 #102732; Old Olive, Pg. 156 #102277; Basic Black Marker, Pg. 155 #100082

Accessories: Stamp-a-ma-jig, Pg. 191 #101049; Blender Pens, Pg. 192 #102845

Stamp the berries image in the upper left area of the card front with Black Staz-On. Squeeze the Old Olive, Perfect Plum and Pale Plum inkpads to get some of the ink on the inside lid. Use the blender pen to pick up a small amount of each color and fill in the image. Scribble the blender pen on a scrap of paper between each color to clean the tip.

Cut a piece of Vellum CS 4-1/2" x 3-1/2 ". Center the vellum over the front of the card and draw a very light pencil line across the bottom. Remove the vellum and use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the sentiment on the pencil line. Replace the vellum and trace around it with the Basic Black marker, skipping over the image and sentiment. Erase the pencil line.

This is a super easy card to make, but I think it looks pretty elegant, don't you?

Cut Cottage Wall DSP 5-1/4" x 4" and attach to card base. Cut a strip of Perfect Plum CS 5-1/2" x 1-1/2" and attach to base. Layer 5-1/2" x 1" contrasting DSP over Perfect Plum. Wrap the ribbon around this piece and tape on the back before attaching to the card base.
Stamp the flower on 3-3/8" x 1-1/2" Whisper White. Use a blender pen to color in the flower. You could also use markers, but I prefer to color in with the blender pens because I have more control. Use the 2-way Glue Pen to add Dazzling Diamonds to the flower. Attach the image to a piece of 3-1/2" x 1-3/4" Perfect Plum CS. Wrap ribbon around this piece and tie in front. Adjust ribbon so it lines up with the ribbon on the horizontal contrast piece and attach with dimensionals.
Punch a Scallop Oval out of Perfect Plum CS. Stamp the Le Jardin Botanique image to a scrap of Whisper White CS and punch out with the Large Oval Punch. Attach to Scallop Oval with dimensionals. Attach this piece to ribbon with glue dots or sticky strip.
All done!

Mojo Monday

This is my first attempt at a Mojo Monday project. For those of you who aren't familiar with the Mojo Monday website, every Monday they post an inspirational sketch. You can create your own project using their sketch and upload it to their site using the Mr. Linky form. I haven't uploaded anything yet, so today will be another first for me. The designer paper is cut at 4" x 5-1/4". The contrast pattern is cut at 4" x 1" and layered over the first. Wrap the ribbon over the seam and tape on the back. Stamp the 24-7 stamp on Whisper White CS and punch out with the Small Oval Punch. Place a small amount of Crystal Effects inside the rim of the Hodgepodge Hardware piece and attach the stamped image. Center the hardware over the ribbon and use the piercing tool to attach. Attach to front of card using Snail.

Punch a Real Red Scallop on the Big Shot and attach to top section of the card. The Basic Black CS mat is cut at 2-1/2" x 3". The Whisper White CS is cut at 2-1/4" x 2-3/4". Use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to center the bird and sentiment. Layer the image over the black mat and center over the scallop using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Autumn Splendor Thank You Card

I'm so excited to be posting my very first tutorial. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

This little thank you card has a 3" x 6" base using Taken with Teal CS, scored at 3". The three panels are from the new Autumn Meadows DSP found on Pg. 13 of the new Holiday Mini Catalog, #116769. The panels are 7/8" x 2-7/8" and inked around the edges using Really Rust.

I then used temporary adhesive to attach the three panels to a sheet of grid paper as shown in the second photo. Using the oak leaf image from the new Autumn Splendor stamp set (Also on Pg. 13 of the Holiday Mini Catalog, #116503), I stamped across the three panels in Chocolate Chip ink. The acorn image was stamped on Really Rust CS with Versamark Ink (Pg. 190, #102283 of the 2009-10 Idea Book and Catalog) and embossed with gold embossing powder (Pg. 188, #109129).

I added color to the oak leaf image using a blender pen (Pg. 192, #102845) and the Really Rust and More Mustard inkpads. I added shadows to the acorn image using a blendor pen and Really Rust and Old Olive inkpads. The panels were then attached evenly across the card base with snail (Pg. 192, #104332).

The sentiment is from the Short and Sweet stamp set (Pg. 141 #115060). The sentiment was stamped on Chocolate Chip CS with Versamark and embossed with gold embossing powder. I punched the image out using the Modern Label punch (Pg. 186, #116630). I punched an outline in Taken with Teal using the Modern Label window and the Movers and Shakers die (Pg. 201, #114506 and #115953).

I wrapped linen thread (Pg. 183, #104199) around the front of the card and attached the label using Stampin' Dimensionals (Pg. 192, #104430). The acorn image was cut out and attached to the label using Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive (Pg.192, #110755).
